This week I would like to reflect on the videos that we watched in relation to video editing and filming. We did a large amount of filming of the Purdue League of Legends club today. The rule of thirds was very important to learn as we did a number of interviews today and without learning the rule of thirds our interviews would not look as good as they do. B roll is also an important thing to take care of while filming. We took footage from the room where the meeting was taking place, the outside of the building, hallways in the building, gameplay footage, and more. B roll is important to use for transitions or during a cutaway during an interview. Essentially, b roll helps you to visually elaborate on a point, though it will not contain an associated audio file. The other videos that dealt with lighting and other filming techniques are also very useful. We could not alter the lighting in the room where the club was playing obviously, but the place where we interviewed had good natural lighting and sound quality.
The videos that we watched definitely gave me a large amount of new information about how to film a documentary. The information I gained from those videos were certainly things that I would not have thought of on my own and I am glad that we got to see them before we began filming. The things that we learned definitely aided in our filming process as well.
